Axe Throwing – Bury the Hatchet

The Invitation

Axe throwing. In December. Are we going to chop down a tree for Christmas? Did the invitation really say, “Axe throwing”??? Sounds like a remarkably safe activity… Oh, and I see on their website that alcohol could be consumed by participants, if desired. Sounds REALLY safe! “Give ’em a drink and an axe! We’ll see who’s still standing! Ha!” Well…since it was definitely outside the range of my normal activity, I couldn’t wait to see what it was all about!

Why Axe Throwing?

To give you some background, we recently reorganized/re-aligned our larger team at work. The new structure and assignment of roles brought forth the opportunity to re-think how we do business. In some cases, that meant forging forward with what we have done well, but in other areas, it meant abandoning things that weren’t working or didn’t fit the new strategy.

In keeping with the latter, our day’s planning session ended with an off-site gathering to Bury the Hatchet of the old ways of doing things.

Expectation vs. Reality

Upon arrival, all of my questions and concerns became moot. This outing was SO MUCH FUN! Are you as curious as I was?

Let me give you the skinny:

  • Show up, eager to try something new
  • Check in at the front desk (must be at least 14-16 to play) and sign a waiver (parent/guardian can sign for minors)
  • Follow the Axe Master to the assigned cage
  • Listen carefully to the Axe Master as he/she gives directions and tips for how to play…..safely!
  • Relax and enjoy your practice session, figuring out what works best for you
  • Put on your game face and go head-to-head in competition
  • Have a blast and tell all your friends!

Review of Bury the Hatchet

I have included some photos of our event below to give you some idea of what to expect. Click through for full-sized images.

I was very impressed with the process, the hospitality of the axe masters, and the focus on safety (always important!). If you are here in Atlanta (or close enough to get here….or planning a trip here soon), “toss” around the idea of putting Bury the Hatchet on your list of things to try. It will be a fun indoor adventure!
